Brideshead Revisited

Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode), an Oxford student, befriends Sebastian Flyte (Ben Whishaw), a flamboyant and wealthy aristocrat. Charles becomes infatuated with Julia Flyte (Hayley Atwell), Sebastian's sister, and visits the family estate, Brideshead, where he is enthralled by its grandeur and the residents, including the devout Roman Catholic Lady Marchmain (Emma Thompson) and her children. As Charles' ties to the Flytes deepen, he faces opposition from their strong Catholicism, particularly after Julia's engagement to a Canadian businessman, Rex Mottram. Four years later, Charles is reunited with Julia on an ocean liner, and they rekindle their romance, but ultimately decide to part ways after Julia decides she cannot relinquish her faith to be with Charles.
