Professor Malcolm Evans (Brett Halsey) leads his archaeological expedition into the Valley of Temples in southeast Sicily, where his companion and former student, Liza Harris (Meg Register), becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth about a 16th Century convent and its grisly legend of crucifixion. As Liza delves deeper into the forbidden ruins, supernatural murders begin to take place, and she pursues her investigation despite the warnings of her professor. The local villagers, including Turi DeSimone (Lino Salemme), rise to protect the entombed secrets of their ancestors, leading to a descent into chaos and terror.
