Out in the Silence

In a small town where secrets are few but expectations of silence reign supreme, a native son returns home to challenge tradition and spark change. When the severe bullying of a gay teenager draws him back to his conservative rural community of Oil City, Pennsylvania, he brings his own story of love and acceptance, and with it, a chance for the town to reexamine its long-held values. The film chronicles the emotional reactions of the town's residents, from the teenager's mother to an evangelical pastor and the head of the local American Family Association chapter, as they grapple with the complexities of identity and equality in a place where it is not often seen.
