In April 2006, Private First Class Izzy Diaz (Izzy Diaz) records an amateur documentary, "Tell Me No Lies," about his deployment in Samarra, Iraq, to present to a film school as part of admission. A French documentary crew embeds with Salazar's platoon and films the soldiers performing their routine duties. During a checkpoint, a pregnant woman is shot and killed by the soldiers, leading to a heated discussion about the incident. The group's dynamics are further strained when they discover the pregnant woman was trying to get to the hospital, and one soldier, Ty Jones (Ty Jones) as Master Sergeant Sweet, is killed after stepping on an improvised explosive device. The story takes a dark turn when the group, including Izzy Diaz (Izzy Diaz) and Rob Devaney (Rob Devaney) as Lawyer McCoy, plan and execute the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl, Zahra Alzubaidi (Zahra Alzubaidi). The events are captured on camera by Izzy Diaz (Izzy Diaz), who becomes increasingly disturbed by the atrocities he witnesses.
