J'accuse

In 1894, French Captain Alfred Dreyfus is wrongfully convicted of treason and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Devil’s Island penal colony. Officer Georges Picquart (Jean Dujardin), Dreyfus' former teacher, investigates the affair and discovers that the so-called bordereau, the document that ostensibly proves Dreyfus' guilt, was not written by Dreyfus, but by another soldier. Picquart tries to reopen the trial to exonerate Dreyfus, but faces opposition from his superiors, who are determined to keep the scandal hidden. The case sparks a national debate and leads to the publication of Émile Zola's (not mentioned in the cast) open letter "J'Accuse..." which criticizes the irregularities of the trial and exposes the corruption involved.
