In Depression-era Japan, a courteous bus driver, Ken Uehara as Mr. Thank You, carries an eclectic group of passengers from the mountainous Izu to Tokyo, including a mother and daughter who are bound for a fate in the city, and a Korean working woman making funeral arrangements for her deceased father. Along the way, the bus driver's nickname is born from his expressions of gratitude to other road users, and he forms a bond with the young girl being sold.
