Land and Freedom

The film "Land and Freedom" tells the story of David Carr, an unemployed worker and member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, who decides to fight in the Spanish Civil War for the republicans against a nationalist coup d'état. The film follows Carr's journey as he joins the International Brigades, befriends other foreign volunteers, and eventually falls in love with Blanca, a member of the POUM militia. After being wounded, Carr is forced to re-evaluate his beliefs when he encounters the Soviet propaganda and repression against POUM members and anarchists. The film ends with Carr's return to Great Britain, where he is buried with a red neckerchief full of Spanish earth.
