Mouchette

Mouchette, a young girl living in the French countryside, suffers constant indignities at the hand of alcoholism and her fellow man. The titular character, played by Nadine Nortier, faces a series of traumatic events, including being taken advantage of by an epileptic poacher, Arsène, played by Jean-Claude Guilbert. In contrast to the misery of her daily life, Mouchette experiences a brief moment of joy at a fair, where she rides on bumper cars and meets a young man. However, her happiness is short-lived, as she returns home to find her mother dead and her father abusive, leading to a downward spiral of events that ultimately culminate in Mouchette's tragic disappearance.
