Chilsu wa Mansu

Chilsu and Mansu, the debut film of director Park Kwang-su, follows two aimless young men, Park Man-su (Ahn Sung-ki) and Jang Chil-su (Park Joong-hoon), who are both painters without stable jobs. They climb to the top of a high-rise billboard, drawing a crowd, and their easy camaraderie foreshadows their future collaborations. As the film progresses, Chilsu falls in love with Jina (Bae Jong-ok), a college student and part-time worker, and quits his job to work with Mansu, but their optimism is slowly drained by the harsh realities of their lives, including their struggles with poverty, corruption, and social inequality. The film ends with a tense standoff between the protagonists and the establishment, symbolizing the working class's frustration with being marginalized from the nation's economic miracle.
