In 1866, Tom Corbett, a prospector played by Franco Nero, returns to his hometown of Laramie, Texas, which is under the brutal control of gangster Jason Scott and his violent son, Junior. With his brother Jeff, a struggling drunk cared for by their maid Mercedes, played by Rina Franchetti, Tom seeks to overthrow the Scotts' tyrannical rule and restore peace to the town. Tom learns that Jason Scott is actually his father, Tom's wealthy widowed mother's husband, and that he had sent for Tom to live at the ranch with him as his heir, but Scott Junior, the insane and spoiled younger half-brother, has other plans. Tom and Jeff then join forces to take down Scott Junior and his henchmen in a climactic gunfight, resulting in the death of Scott Junior, who falls to his death in a dove-coop.
