By Player is a 2000 Japanese biographical film directed by Kaneto Shindō, based on the life of actor Taiji Tonoyama. The film features Naoto Takenaka as Tonoyama, showcasing his struggles with alcohol dependence and various sexual relationships, set against the backdrop of his collaborations with director Shindo. Through a series of vignettes and voiceover recollections by Nobuko Otowa, the film explores Tonoyama's life, including his tumultuous relationships and his work on films such as The Naked Island.
