The Rapture

A lonely telephone operator leading an empty, amoral life finds God – only to have her faith continually tested in ways beyond what she could have imagined. Sharon, a young Los Angeles woman, converts from a swinger to a born-again Christian after learning that a true Rapture is imminent based on strange dreams experienced by an unnamed Christian sect. As she becomes increasingly devout, her relationships and sense of self are put to the test when tragedy strikes, forcing her to confront the very faith that has brought her so much comfort. Ultimately, Sharon's unyielding anger towards God for allowing suffering leads to a devastating conclusion, one that leaves her forever trapped in a purgatory-like landscape, separated from those she loves most.
