When wealthy African-American playwright Andrew Sterling buys a summer home on a predominantly white island in Massachusetts, he unwittingly becomes embroiled in a series of events that expose the deep-seated racial tensions and prejudices that simmer beneath the surface of small-town America. After being mistaken for a burglar, Andrew is surrounded by armed police who demand the surrender of a thief named Amos Odell, a deal brokered by corrupt Chief Tolliver to avoid bad publicity. As the unlikely duo navigates their way through the crisis, they must confront the harsh realities of racism and injustice, leading to a shocking showdown that will leave neither man unchanged.
