In 1930s Germany, professor John Halder (Viggo Mortensen) is drawn into the Nazi party after his paper on euthanasia gains attention from powerful figures. As he rises through the ranks, he must confront the devastating consequences of his choices and actions, including the impact on his best friend Maurice (Jason Isaacs), a Jewish psychologist who tries to escape persecution. Halder's journey takes him to a concentration camp, where he is forced to confront the harsh reality of his involvement with the regime.
