Ilona Koponen (Kati Outinen) and her husband Lauri (Kari Väänänen), a tram driver, face hardship and unemployment in post-cancellation Helsinki, navigating bureaucracy and seeking survival. As they struggle to find work, Ilona's life is guided by the ray of hope provided by her former boss, Mrs. Sjöholm, who lends her capital to open a restaurant called Work.
