Here and Elsewhere

A radical reworking of footage shot for a different purpose, "Here and Elsewhere" juxtaposes the lives of Palestinian fedayeen fighting in Jordan, Lebanon, and the West Bank with a French family watching television at home, highlighting the distortions of capitalism on media and liberative causes, as well as its effects on the filmmakers themselves. Originally shot by the Dziga Vertov Group for a film on Palestinian freedom fighters, Godard reworked the material alongside Anne-Marie Miéville to create a searing critique of economic and social disparities. This innovative work marked the beginning of Jean-Luc Godard's transitional period, experimenting with video, political polemics, and representational issues.
