The Golden Boat

The Golden Boat is a 1990 American low-budget film directed by Chilean filmmaker Raúl Ruiz, inspired by American police series and Mexican soap operas, set in New York City. The story follows Austin (Michael Kirby), an aged street-person and compulsive assassin, who joins forces with young rock critic Israel Williams (Federico Muchnik) as he pursues his object of desire, a Mexican soap opera star. Along the way, they engage in a surreal journey populated by international celebrities, Marxist employees, and postmodern literary critics, with themes centered around death, confusion, craziness, cowardice, and loneliness.
