Robin "Stormy" Weathers (Judd Nelson), a recent law school graduate, manipulates his superiors into allowing him to represent banker Raymond Torkenson in his trial. He intentionally turns the case into a media frenzy and wins it by conspiring with opposing lawyer Matt Cowens, earning a promotion. Weathers then becomes lead defense counsel in a murder trial, representing college professor Douglas Benoit, who is actually guilty of murdering prostitute Liza Williams. Despite knowing this, Weathers prioritizes advancing his career over doing what's right.
