In 1940s Chicago, a young black man takes a job as a chauffeur to a white family, which takes a turn for the worse when he accidentally kills the teenage daughter of the couple and then tries to cover it up. The film, based on the novel Native Son by Richard Wright, is marked by its controversial plot and received severe editing in the United States. Now restored, the 1951 Argentine melodrama offers a powerful portrayal of racism and the struggle for justice, with Wright delivering a compelling performance as the protagonist Bigger Thomas.
