Wise Blood

Wise Blood follows Hazel "Haze" Motes (Brad Dourif), a 22-year-old war veteran and preacher who leads an atheistic church that rejects any belief in God or sin. Haze's life becomes complicated when he encounters a teenage girl named Sabbath Lilly Hawks, who is deeply in love with him, and a local boy named Enoch Emory, who finds solace in the idea of a "new" Jesus through a shrunken South American Indian corpse. As Haze navigates his relationships and faith, he undergoes a series of surreal and violent events, including a failed marriage proposal and a confrontation with Hoover Shoates, a promoter trying to manage his career as a prophet. The film ultimately ends with Haze's landlady caring for him in a state of apparent coma, leaving the audience questioning the true nature of his existence.
