Talent for the Game

Virgil Sweet (Edward James Olmos), a veteran baseball scout for the California Angels, discovers country boy Sammy Bodeen (Jeff Corbett) with an incredible pitching arm while on a road trip with his girlfriend Bobbie (Lorraine Bracco). After initial skepticism, Virgil arranges a tryout and, with overblown hype from team management, Sammy makes his debut as baseball's next great star. Despite the high expectations, Sammy faces stiff competition in his first game, but with Virgil's help, he begins to prove himself as a rising star.
