In 1990 South Africa, fourteen-year-old John Milton navigates his first year at an elite boys-only private boarding school, struggling to fit in among the "Crazy Eight". With the help of a teacher named Mr. Edly, Spud slowly finds his place and learns valuable lessons about friendship, love, and choice. As he becomes more confident, he must confront his own desires and loyalties when romance beckons from two different girls.
