Scandal in Sorrento

Marshal Antonio Carotenuto (Vittorio De Sica) returns to his hometown of Sorrento to take over the local police force, only to discover that his house is occupied by a young fishmonger named Donna Sofia (Sophia Loren). He becomes infatuated with her, but instead of evicting her, he invites her to lodge in the home of another woman, Donna Violante Ruotolo (Lea Padovani), whom Carotenuto also becomes attracted to. As Carotenuto tries to navigate his feelings and reclaim his home, a complicated love triangle develops between him, Sofia, and her fisherman fiancé, Nicolino (Antonio Cifariello).
