Another Country

The film is set in an unnamed public school in 1930s Britain, modeled after Eton and Winchester, where openly gay student Guy Bennett recalls his last year at Cambridge University, where he bonded with friend Tommy Judd, a fervent Marxist, over their desire for non-conformity. The story explores the hypocrisy and snobbery of the English public school system through Bennett's experience as a gay student who becomes disillusioned with the class system's reliance on outward appearance. Based on the life of spy and double agent Guy Burgess, the film examines his homosexuality and exposure to Marxism from Judd, and how these factors contribute to his eventual defection to Russia as a spy for the Soviet Union.
