Stargate

In 1928 at Giza, Egypt, archaeologist Professor Paul Langford uncovers a large metallic ring of unknown purpose beneath the cover stones engraved with Egyptian hieroglyphs. Decades later, Catherine, his now-elderly daughter, invites linguist Daniel Jackson to translate the hieroglyphs on the ring's table, which is part of a classified US Air Force project overseen by Colonel Jack O'Neil. Using Jackson's coordinates, they align the Stargate's rotating inner track with V-shaped markings, opening a wormhole connecting it to a distant planet called Abydos. As they emerge inside a temple at the base of a pyramid, Jackson and his team soon discover that the native humans worship Ra, an alien being who enslaved them during Ancient Egyptian times, and now seeks to use the Stargate to bring nuclear devastation back to Earth.
