Tommy Lee Jones plays Michael "Mike" Roark, director of the city's Office of Emergency Management, who must use every resource in the city to try and stop a volcano from consuming Los Angeles after an earthquake shatters the peaceful morning, causing lava to start bubbling up at the La Brea Tar Pits.
