Sunshine

In 2057, the Sun is dying and Earth is freezing. Eight astronauts aboard the starship Icarus II are sent on a last-chance mission to deliver and detonate a colossal stellar bomb intended to reignite the Sun. As the ship passes Mercury, it receives a distress beacon from Icarus I, the earlier mission that had disappeared seven years prior. Engineer Mace objects to diverting course, but Captain Kaneda decides to investigate. The crew faces numerous challenges as they try to repair their damaged heat shields and navigate towards the Sun. On board the derelict ship Icarus I, physicist Robert Capa (Cillian Murphy) finds evidence of a previous mission's catastrophic failure, which casts doubt on their own success. With limited oxygen and time running out, Capa must arm the bomb to save humanity.
