Michelle Yeoh stars as Aung San Suu Kyi, Burmese housewife turned activist, in this 2011 biographical film directed by Luc Besson. The story follows Suu Kyi's journey from her early life with her father, the leader of modern Burma, to her struggles for democracy and human rights in Burma during the 1988 crackdown. Yeoh brings an Asian insight to the role, which she played after watching over 200 hours of audiovisual material on Suu Kyi and taking Burmese lessons.
