The Champ

Jon Voight plays Billy Flynn ("Champ"), a former boxer trying to settle down as a horse trainer after giving up his boxing title. After getting propositioned about a future match, Billy returns to the gym with his son Timothy Joseph "T.J." (Ricky Schroder), who is initially excited to see his father but is later devastated when Billy's drunken behavior causes him harm. In an effort to win back T.J.'s trust, Billy reconciles with his ex-wife Annie (Faye Dunaway) and gets back into the ring for a fight against her husband's friend, ultimately winning the match but suffering severe injuries that lead to his death.
