A Chorus of Disapproval

Guy Jones (Jeremy Irons), a young widower, joins an amateur operatic society in a small British town to meet people, but finds drama offstage far outweighs that on stage as he rises through the ranks to become the male lead in The Beggar's Opera. He navigates liaisons with several female cast members, including Prunella Scales' Hannah Ap Llewellyn and Anthony Hopkins' Dafydd Ap Llewellyn, a local character who offers guidance.
