Arlo Guthrie stars as himself in this 1969 biographical comedy film directed by Arthur Penn, based on his song "Alice's Restaurant Massacree". After getting kicked out of college, Arlo visits his friends Ray and Alice Brock at their home, a deconsecrated church, where they welcome him for Thanksgiving dinner. After the dinner, Arlo volunteers to take the trash to the dump but gets arrested for littering, leading to a series of bizarre events, including encounters with hippies, junkies, and military officials.
