Buster Keaton stars as William "Willie" Canfield Jr., the out-of-college son of a no-nonsense steamboat captain, Ernest Torrence, who comes to visit his father and gets caught up in a series of mishaps and misadventures involving romance, rivalry, and catastrophe. When Willie's clumsy efforts to impress his girlfriend, Kitty King (Marion Byron), clash with his father's business rival, J.J. King (Tom McGuire), chaos ensues, culminating in an unforgettable rescue from drowning amidst a violent storm.
