The East

In 1946, amidst the Indonesian National Revolution, a young Dutch soldier named Johan de Vries is deployed to suppress post-WWII independence efforts in Indonesia's colony. As he joins an elite squad led by the ruthless commander Raymond Westerling, Johan finds himself torn between duty and conscience when he witnesses the brutal treatment of suspected guerrillas and innocent civilians. Haunted by the true nature of his mission, Johan ultimately decides to escape, flee back to the Netherlands, and confront the darkness of his own past.
