The Day the Earth Caught Fire

A British reporter, Peter Stenning (Edward Judd), and his colleague Bill Maguire (Leo McKern), try to uncover the truth behind a global disaster caused by simultaneous nuclear tests conducted by the United States and the Soviet Union. As they investigate, they fall in love with Jeannie Craig (Janet Munro), a young typist at the British Met Office, who helps them gather crucial information about the Earth's altered orbit and the impending doom of the planet as it spirals towards the Sun.
