In 1935, Alfred E. Green directed Bette Davis in her Oscar-winning role as Joyce Heath, a former Broadway star who falls from fame and is taken in by architect Don Bellows (Franchot Tone), who believes she's cursed. As they navigate their tumultuous relationship, Don risks his fortune to help Joyce revive her career, while struggling with his own feelings of guilt and loyalty.
