"People's Republic of Desire" follows three millennials – a karaoke singer, a migrant worker, and a rags-to-riches comedian – as they navigate China's popular live-streaming showrooms in search of fame, fortune, and human connection, only to find the same promises and perils online that they face in their real lives.
