Rider on the Rain

In the French seaside town, a young woman named Mélancolie "Mellie" Mau (Marlène Jobert) is brutally raped by a stranger. Seeking justice and revenge, she kills her attacker but chooses not to report the crime to anyone. Meanwhile, an American U.S. colonel, Harry Dobbs (Charles Bronson), arrives in town, claiming to know Mellie's story and seemingly working on a mysterious agenda related to her husband, who is absent from home.
