In 1913, Francis Ouimet, an Irish and French-Canadian immigrant from the working class, defies his father's wishes to pursue golf, a sport only for the wealthy. With the help of his friends and caddie, Eddie Lowery, Francis wins the Massachusetts Schoolboy Championship and impresses the Country Club members with his talent and composure. Despite facing ridicule from the rich folk, Francis secures entry into the U.S. Open, where he battles against favorites Harry Vardon and Ted Ray in a thrilling playoff that will determine not only his own champion status but also the future of American golf.
