The Green Mile

In 1935, corrections officer Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) oversees "The Green Mile", the death row section of Cold Mountain Penitentiary, alongside officers Brutus Howell (David Morse), Dean Stanton, Harry Terwilliger, and the sadistic Percy Wetmore. The guards supervise three prisoners: Eduard "Del" Delacroix, William "Wild Bill" Wharton, and John Coffey, a hulking yet gentle and simple-minded African-American man convicted of raping and murdering two white girls. John possesses miraculous healing abilities, which he uses to cure his cellmate's bladder infection and resurrect Mr. Jingles, the mouse that was crushed by Percy. As Paul grows doubtful of John's guilt, he convinces the guards to let him help John heal Warden Hal's terminally ill wife, Melinda, but ultimately cannot save John from execution, leaving Paul to wonder if his life is a miracle or divine punishment.
