Louis de Funès plays an industrialist named Bertrand Barnier who discovers over the course of a single day that his daughter is pregnant, he has been robbed by an employee, and various other calamities have befallen his household and his business. Christian Martin, played by Claude Rich as a modest accountant, blackmails Barnier into giving him a 100% increase in wages after claiming to have stolen millions from him. As the day unfolds, Colette, Barnier's daughter, breaks down when her father opposes her marriage proposal, and she lies to him about being pregnant with her lover's child, causing further complications.
