Matria

Matria is a 2014 Mexican documentary film that tells the story of Antolín Jiménez Garza, a Mexican revolutionary who joined Francisco Villa's Division del Norte troops and later formed the Legion of Mexican Fighters, a group of cattle hands training to repel a possible Nazi invasion in Mexico. The documentary features Lila Downs as herself, sharing her own family history tied to the story of Antolín Jiménez Garza. Fernando Llanos, who also wrote, directed, and starred in the film, discovers the secrets of his grandfather's life while making this documentary.
