Thunderbolt is a 1929 American pre-Code proto-noir film directed by Josef von Sternberg and starring George Bancroft as Thunderbolt Jim Lang, Fay Wray as Ritzy, Richard Arlen as Bob Moran, Tully Marshall as the Warden, and Eugenie Besserer as Mrs. Moran. The story follows a criminal, facing execution, who hopes to kill an innocent man for being in love with his former girlfriend. George Bancroft was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
