The Lady from Shanghai

In New York City, Michael O'Hara, a romantic drifter, rescues a woman named Elsa from hooligans and agrees to work on her husband Arthur Bannister's luxury yacht. As they sail to San Francisco via the Panama Canal, Michael is drawn into a complex game of cat and mouse with George Grisby, who has planned to fake his own death to collect $5,000. Meanwhile, Sydney Broome, a private investigator hired by Bannister to keep an eye on Elsa, is murdered, and Michael becomes embroiled in the investigation that ultimately leads him to discover that Elsa had planned her husband's murder all along.
