The Wandering Soap Opera

The Wandering Soap Opera is a 2017 Chilean comedy-drama film that reimagines reality as a surreal collection of overlapping soap operas. Directed by Raúl Ruiz and Valeria Sarmiento, the film features Luis Alarcón as Belisario / Homero / Mateo in its portrayal of Chilean life. Shot on Super 16 mm film, it was originally begun by Ruiz in 1990 but completed by Sarmiento in 2017 before premiering at the Locarno Festival and later in the US at the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
