Back Street

In this classic drama romance, ambitious dress shop owner Rae Smith (Susan Hayward) finds herself torn between her own ambitions and a forbidden love affair with wealthy department-store heir Paul Saxon (John Gavin), who is still married when they meet in Lincoln, Nebraska. As Rae pursues success as a fashion designer in New York City and Rome, their secret meetings continue, but ultimately the affair is threatened by Paul's young son and his wife's public humiliation at a charity fashion show. The tragic consequences of their affair culminate in a devastating car crash that kills Paul's wife and leaves him critically injured, forcing Rae to confront her own losses and the true cost of her love for Paul.
