Between Heaven and Hell

Sergeant Sam Gifford (Robert Wagner), a Southern cotton plantation owner, is demoted to private after striking his cowardly lieutenant. He is transferred to a punishment company run by Captain "Waco" Grimes (Broderick Crawford), who insists on being called "Waco." Through flashbacks, we learn Gifford's backstory and how he gradually becomes closer to the privates, working-class people he used to despise.
