The Master

In early 1950s post-war America, Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix) finds solace in the charismatic teachings of Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the leader of a philosophical movement known as "The Cause." As Freddie becomes immersed in The Cause's practices and travels with Dodd's family, he begins to confront his own dark past and struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder.
