The Ambassador

Robert Mitchum stars as U.S. Ambassador to Israel Peter Hacker in this 1984 action drama thriller about his efforts to bring peace to the Middle East conflict through unconventional methods, but his personal life is threatened at every turn. Ellen Burstyn plays his troubled and lonely wife Alex, whose secret tryst with a Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) member is caught on film by an unknown entity. Rock Hudson portrays Frank Stevenson, Hacker's security chief, who voices concerns about the ambassador's plan and helps him uncover a plot to blackmail him.
