The Story of Adele H

Isabelle Adjani as Adèle Hugo becomes increasingly unhinged as she pursues Lieutenant Albert Pinson in 1860s North America. She writes a series of obsessive love letters and journals, and even attempts to hypnotize Pinson into marrying her, but he remains unmoved by her affections. As her behavior deteriorates, Adèle is taken in by a kind bookseller, Mr. Whistler, who becomes the only person she trusts, but ultimately loses patience with her antics.
