A brilliant young fund manager, Danielle Macdonald's Millie Cantwell, leaves her unfulfilling job and long-term boyfriend to chase her lifelong dream of becoming an opera singer in the Scottish Highlands. There, she meets Hugh Skinner's Max Thistlewaite, a rival student of Joanna Lumley's Meghan Geoffrey-Bishop, a former opera diva who trains Millie with harsh methods. As they both prepare for the annual Singer of Renown competition, Millie and Max develop feelings for each other despite their rivalry and competing goals.
